6 Ways to Improve Your Workweek

how to improve your workweek

Work is called work for a reason. It’s usually not fun and if it is, you’re not doing your job. Just kidding, I am lucky enough to love what I do so work doesn’t bother me, but that’s not to say every day is rainbows and butterflies. I’m sure there are more than 6 ways to improve your work week, but we’ll stick to the really good ones for now…

1. compliment someone

When you compliment people you not only give them a boost, but you end up boosting yourself. Everyone loves a compliment, and I mean everyone!

Here’s a challenge: try complimenting someone every day for one month, then tell me how YOUR life changed after.

2. get off instagram

It’s amazing how much more productive you are without checking Instagram every 2 seconds. One thing leads to another and now all of a sudden you’re stalking your ex’s sister’s coworker who’s currently in Bali livin’ the life.

Listen, work is called work for a reason. There are going to be some things that just suck and playing on Instagram to avoid doing them isn’t going to get you anywhere. In fact, Instagram will make you feel worse because everyone appears to be doing really cool stuff while you’re not. Trust me when I say, do the work now so you can do the really cool stuff later.

I’ll time block myself for an hour or so at a time and turn my phone completely off and I usually get done what I had to in half the time it would take my otherwise, which makes me feel great.

3. write down your happiest moment

Even the worst work environments have happy moments. You could have joked around with a coworker, left work early, or saw an inspirational guest speaker. Write down the happiest moment(s) of your day so that when things are really crappy you can go back and read over the good stuff.

4. listen to music

Listening to music is a no brainer. You just have to make sure you can still get work done and jam out. Some music can be super distracting, like anything by DMX. I’m not sure DMX would improve your work week per say. Still love him though!

I personally listen to “Perfect Concentration”, “Zen Focus”, and “Evening Chill” playlists on Spotify. I find those to be the most non-distracting and soothing. The right music gets you in the zone and when you’re in the zone you’re unstoppable and when you’re unstoppable you feel amazing.

5. write down 3 things you want to happen

Every successful person starts their day by writing down 3 things they want to happen that day. It could be reaching a goal, meeting someone new, or going out for lunch. Just write it down and see if you accomplish any. I bet you’ll check off more boxes than you think.

6. take the initiative

People don’t want to be a babysitter, so take it upon yourself to go above and beyond what is expected of you and I promise you’ll reap the benefits later. No one ever got ahead by doing the bare minimum and waiting for their “big break” to happen. If you want something, you have to go out there and make it happen.

When all is said and done, work is work, but there are subtle moves you can make every day to improve each work week. Even blogging can get ugly from time to time, which is why I remember these tips to keep me on track to be the best version of myself.
