Blogging 101: How to Create Great Blog Content

HOW TO CREATE GREAT BLOG CONTENT

Now, I never announced this before but this is week 4 of our 6 week series on blogging, in honor of my new eguide: Build Your Own Style Blog. This week is one of, if not the most important aspect of blogging… creating amazing content. Sounds easy enough, right? Eh, not so much.

step 1: find your niche

Are you a fashion blogger? Lifestyle blogger? DIY blogger? Tips and tricks blogger? The more specific the better. For example, a fashion blogger who only blogs about denim. You’ll have less competition, become the O.G. of your trade, and have a more loyal, authentic readership.

step 2: add killer titles

The title might be more important than the actual content come to think of it. The title of your blog post is like the wrapping paper on a present. Packaged just right and you can get just about anyone to click your link. You want something short, catchy, and informative.

I lacked in that department in my earlier blogging days using titles like Loneliness instead of 12 Books that Will Rock Your World.

step 3: write what you’d read

Similar to practice what you preach. Don’t write about sports if you have no interest in reading it. People like originality and passion. Those qualities lack when you’re not being true to you. When you fake/force a blog post, your readers will know and your blog will suffer. Quality > quantity. Trust me. #beentheredonethat

step 4: write how you talk

This goes back to being original and staying true to you. There’s a reason people follow you and come to your blog… because they want YOU! They admire your style and voice. Don’t let them down by pretending to be something you’re not.

step 5: stay organized

I am so OCD I have to categorize evvvvvverything. The majority of my posts start with How to |, What to Wear |, or City Style Files |. I like to stay unison and consistent, that way my readers know exactly what to expect. My new thing is doing blog series like this, must be the teacher in me. 🙂

I occasionally throw in a positivity post or healthy recipe to switch it up and see how my readers respond to it.

step 6: make your blog posts skim worthy

Remember skim reading? Well, we still do it and the majority of you probably haven’t read this blog post top to bottom, and that’s ok! That’s why I like to bullet point things, it’s easy on the eyes and gets the point across.
