How to | Put Positivity in Your Life (Even When Things Are Crappy)

joseph campbell quotesIt’s funny how the Uni-verse will give you little signs that inspire you to do something that needs to be done, (i.e. a breakup, a lifestyle change, a career move, etc). No, none of these things are happening in my life, but I do believe in improving your life day in and day out so a lifestyle change/improvement is always in the cards for me. Since having just read this post by my blogging bestie, Lauryn over at TSC, I felt inspired to write my own little positivity post.

I mentioned a few happiness helpers in this post, but I really want to dig deep today…

Write to yourself

Lauryn says she posts positivity notes and affirmations all around her house, I do the same and even write down what I’m grateful for, my happy moments, goals, etc. for that day/month/year. I find short term goals work best because you’re not overwhelmed with some huge expectation. Baby steps.

One thing I do is I write how many Instagram followers I want by a certain date on my calendar that I look at every day, and it works! I usually exceed my goal, too.

I also write down what I want to improve in all areas of my life for the year: physical, artistic, career, spiritual, travel, etc.

I have a gratitude journal where I write down 3-10 things I’m grateful for every day, {it’s ok if you repeat}.

In my other journal I have a special place for my “Happy Moments” where I recall the happiest moment of my day, {if I’m having a crappy day I’ll read over these and smile remembering those times}.

Talk to yourself

I mentioned before that I meditate for 5-7 minutes every morning, sometimes I say affirmations in my head: I am successful, I am fit, I am strong, etc. When I was single my affirmation was I am complete as I am.

I end my meditation with a prayer: “Thank you Universe for blessing me with another day, today I ask you guide me to sharing my light with others and creating a successful blogging career…” I then go on to bless certain people I love or who could use some good thoughts. My mom is always on that list.

If I’m running late I use positive affirmations like “I will be on time, I will be on time” to assure my getting there on time. If you say something like “I won’t be late”, you actually will because you’re putting that energy out there and what you resist persists.

Visualize

This. Is. Huge. Part of my meditation and daily life practice is to visualize what I want that day, month, etc. I always visualize a life in NYC and being a hugely successful #GIRLBOSS and I also think about how it would feel.

Do you ever think about someone and they call/text at the exact time you’re thinking about them? Are you ever thinking of a song and it comes on the radio? Yeah, that’s no accident. You’re manifesting it into form. Manifesting and visualizing go hand in hand. It’s your job to channel that energy into making your dreams a realty.

Make a vision board

Vision boards are so fun. If you have a hard time visualizing in your head, use cut outs from magazines, print some super inspiring pictures and throw ’em on a vision board so your dreams are in your face 24/7. These pictures could consist of places you want to travel, words you want to describe yourself as, a car/house/dog/ring that you want.

People who create vision boards are more likely to achieve their vision than those who don’t.

Before Jim Carey landed any major movie roles he made a fake check for $1,000,000 and taped it to his ceiling so it’d be the last thing he saw before he went to bed and the first thing he saw when he woke up. Pretty soon after he landed Dumb & Dumber and got a check for $1 million. Drake had a similar experience.

Put positivity everywhere

I used to hateeee those cliche pictures like ‘Never give up’ or ‘Shoot for the stars’, but then I started to look at them differently. Instead of looking at them in a corny light, I looked at them in a motivational light, {which is probably how they’re supposed to be perceived}.

You can’t have negative vibes in your life when you surround yourself with positive pictures, quotes, books, and people. Those Etsy signs are looking better and better, aren’t they?

Help someone

One of the best forms of medicine when you’re feeling “woe is me” is to help someone else.

One time I was driving to my mom’s, in a pretty bad mood and there was a homeless guy asking for money at a red light. To my surprise I felt compelled to give him some, so I did. He was so thankful and blessed me again and again and I felt a million times better.

When you find someone in a really serious situation, it makes our problems look so small… it’s very humbling.

What do you do to add more positivity to your life?

xx
