How to | Wear Sweats & Not Look Like an 80’s Aerobics Instructor

how to wear sweats

If I could I would live in sweats and/or spandex. Comfy is my kryptonite. This outfit fully captures my affinity for comfort. I’m usually not a matchy matchy kinda gal but a sweatsuit is the exception. These sweats would look great with a pair of Stan Smiths, (on my must-have list). I have actually work this two-piece set separately, (here and here), and it has looked phenom. as well. Basically, if you don’t have one already, invest in a matching two-piece set of some sort, preferably sweats because they are amazing.

When I think of sweats on sweats or tracksuits the first thing that comes to mind is: 80’s aerobics instructor… then the mom in Mean Girls. And nobody wants to look like either of those things. So to avoid this I’ve come up with some helpful hints when shopping for sweats:

  • Look for a cigarette pant & show some ankle
  • Avoid elastic around the ankle
  • Avoid elastic around the waist of a “sweatshirt”
  • Make sure you have wiggle room, but not too much
  • Stay in unison, whatever the bottom looks like (wide or skinny pant) make sure the top looks the same (wide or form fitting)
  • Go for some Adidas Stan Smiths or a heel
