My New York Fashion Week Blogger Recap

zanita x tictail eventSince moving to the NYC area, the opportunities have expanded and it has been so easy to meet with like-minded people who otherwise would have been impossible to see in person. New York really is the fashion capital of the world. Even though I didn’t go to any shows, I was still able to get a taste of fashion week.

Overall vibe

New York is very intense during fashion week, especially downtown where a lot of the action happens. A city of normally 7 million feels quiet compared to the increase during NYFW. There are so many bloggers, photographers, celebrities, and designers running around that by the time you actually recognize anyone they’re already gone.

The restaurants and streets are packed with people all of whom you assume are fashion people so you can’t help but observe your surroundings longer than usual and perhaps be mistaken for a tourist.

Zanita Studio dinner

Wednesday night the team went to dinner at Chalk Point Kitchen in SOHO. Apparently it was the debut of an entirely new menu, which was outstanding.

Chalk Point is a smaller eatery as most places in SOHO are, with country chic decor and old school 90’s hip-hop playing in the background. Odd but awesome combination. I don’t what I liked more, the food, company, or music.

Unfortunately I didn’t get any pics aside from some blurry snapchats, but I highly recommend this place. P.s. Screenshot the photo above and add me by snapcode.

This was my very first high profile event and to say it was intimidating was an understatement. Everyone knew everyone, everyone was dressed immaculately, and everyone’s shoes cost more than my entire outfit…. BUT I survived.

Not only did I survive, but I walked away feeling accomplished and with new friends. After I told my bff how surreal it was she said, “Brittany, everyone who was in that room has been in your shoes at least once in their lives, they all started where you started. I’m proud of you for going by yourself.” Ugh, yeah how sweet was that?!

Aside from my minor NYFW insecurities, the event itself was awesome. The DJ was on point, we were surrounded by beautiful art, and the wine was well supplied. You can check out Zanita’s photos and order online.

Blogger & the Brand event

One word: networking. If you don’t attend every single event you’re invited to, especially in the beginning of your blogging career, you’re missing a ton of opportunities. I met some really great girls with really interesting stories.

It always helps to be surrounded by like-minded people trying to do the same thing as you because you never know how you can help each other grow. Collaborating supersedes competition every time. Like I always say, team work makes the dream work.

Fashion Shows

Unfortunately I didn’t go to any shows. The one show I was going to go to I passed on because of the weather and the other show got cancelled due to a designer’s family emergency, poor guy. I will be attending some great NYFW shows in September so stay tuned!

It totally was! It was cool and I’m more confident because of it. Plus I walked away with new friends and connections which is what life’s about anyway! xx
