What You Should Post on Social Media Before the Holidays

what bloggers should post about before the holidays

As I’ve mentioned before, there are ample opportunities for your blog around the holidays, probably more than any other time of the year. Everyone is in a better mood – brands, your followers, other bloggers, etc. People are looking to buy, sell, and give around the holidays. It’s a great time to host killer giveaways, show your readers how to give back, and collaborate with brands on the launch of their new products.

All in all, people want to be inspired around the holidays so give the people what they want! Here are three things you can start with…

holiday outfits

Recently on Snapchat I had a bit of a dilemma. I had no idea what to wear to my office holiday party. To make things even more difficult I couldn’t find any bloggers on social media that could give me the inspiration I was looking for.

I walked from my day job to the place where the party was and then had to commute home in 17-degree weather, so I was looking for a very specific outfit. I ended up going with an all black look, kitten heels and a red lip, which was both functional and festive.

My point is that most of your followers follow you for inspiration, especially for style if you’re a fashion blogger, so make it clear on social media the outfits you put up can be worn for x, y, z. Give people ideas and do the work for them so you end up providing a ton of value.

For example, clearly caption your Instagram pictures with a title relevant to the holidays – “Great outfit to wear to a formal HOLIDAY dinner!”, “What I’m wearing for NEW YEAR’S EVE”, or “Wear ::brand name:: leggings under your dress and over the knee boots for extra warmth at CHRISTMAS”. You can even go into more detail below an eye-catching caption, (I do this often to offer more value).

This idea can go beyond just holiday outfits. Depending on your blog niche, you can post home decor inspo, creative holiday recipes, holiday fitness routines, etc.

how to give back

More bloggers need to show how they’re giving back to the community. There are only two bloggers I can think of that consistently show ways to give back and they are Aimee Song and Natascha Elise, founder of @modelsofcompassion.

Sure, I love your blogger mail Snapchats but what are you doing with all that stuff? Seriously. Some of these bloggers get so many things there is no way they use all of it so where is it going? And if they are donating it why aren’t they showing us that? That’s the stuff I want to see!

I personally feel like there is more neglect for our animals and environment than anything else right now so that is my philanthropy of choice. If you feel the same way I do check out change.org, DSWT, International Animal Rescue, and Hope for Paws.

gift ideas & shopping hauls

I’m not the biggest fan of “hauls”, in fact, it’s safe to say I hate them. Cool, you got some stuff and now you’re going to show us things we can’t afford. Thanks!

But recently I started thinking of hauls in another light, a more valuable light. (If you follow me on Snapchat you know I love value.) During the holidays it is a brilliant idea to Snapchat, Instastory, make a YouTube video, or post a status on Facebook about your favorite products that would make great gifts.

If these hauls are stocking stuffer hauls, gift ideas for him, or the best gifts on Amazon, they could really add some value and prove to be a great hit instead of being the same old, same old. Explain a little bit about how the product works and why you like it. (This could even turn into a brand collaboration.)

So from Thanksgiving on, all your “hauls” need to be great gift ideas for your followers.

If you’re ever having trouble creating a content calendar, just look at upcoming events or holidays and plan around that. It makes things way easier and also makes you a trusted source for your readers because you have relevant up to date info.

Question of the day: What social media platform are you on the most?
