Social Media 101: Facebook Marketing that Makes You Money

facebook marketingBy now it shouldn’t shock you when I tell you in order to reach all your Facebook “fans”… and then some, you have to pay for it. Super smart and highly profitable on Facebook’s part, but the rest of us are pretty bummed. HOWEVER, before you start shouting expletives at your computer because I reminded you of this travesty, let’s go over some beautiful Facebook marketing techniques that actually make you money, while you spend very little. #triedandtrue

After just 1 ad set run for a period of 3 days at $1 per day, I gained 47 YouTube subscribers, 100+ Instagram followers, and 21 new Page likes. How’d I do it? Well, I’ll tell you!

So, I saw an ad for Earn Enough about using Facebook marketing the cheapest way possible with the highest return, and thought ‘Ugh yes please!’. Naturally I downloaded the guide and followed exactly what it told me to do.

Step 1: Create 8-10 different “audiences”

This is the tricky yet fun part. Before you do anything you need to create audiences. Go to “Manage Ads” » “Tools” » “Audience Insights” » “Create Audience”.

The key in the audience is choosing the specifics like location, age, gender, and interest{s}. I kept the location, age, and gender as my constants, {takin’ it back to science class}, and used interest as the variable, which I’ll explain more in Step 2.

When you’re choosing a Facebook audience think of who you want your ad to reach aka your target market. This depends on what your ad is selling, giving away, or promoting. In my case I’m giving away a Beginner’s Blogging Tips Sheet so I want to target young beginner bloggers. My age group is 18-29 from the U.S. or U.K. who speak English and are interested in other blogs like The Blonde Salad, We Wore What, etc.

Step 2: Run A/B testing

Now, for those who don’t know, A/B testing is when you use constants and variables to test advertising or marketing strategies. A/B testing for Facebook can work 2 ways: Same ad, different audience or different ad, same audience. I’ve only done the 1st so far, but plan to do the latter later.

In order to find a Facebook marketing strategy that makes you money you’re going to have to run tests like that. It takes attention to detail and patience but it’ll all be worth it in the end when you have a well oiled machine that needs little to no tweaking.

Step 3: Write a precise & persuasive description

This is so huge in business in general. Your wording will make or break whatever it is you’re trying to convey to your potential customers. No one wants to read a huge long paragraph about why they should buy your product.

It’s your job to explain how you’re going to change their life in the shortest most appealing way possible. For example my ad states this: “Want to be a blogger but have no idea where to start? You’re not alone!”. It’s interesting, simple, yet gives viewers enough info. that they know whether it’s for them or not.

Step 4: Track & analyze results

This is the fun part. Because you’ve run 8-10 ads with different audiences you can weed out what’s working and what’s not simply by looking at your Facebook Ads’ dashboard to compare results.

You’ll see how many leads, conversions, and CPC, {cost per click} you have. The idea is to narrow down your ads to the lowest CPC with the highest conversion rate. It’s not hard it just takes time to find out what your target market wants or if you’re even targeting the right market in the first place.

Facebook also allows you to pick what type of ad you want to run, i.e. “Conversion”, “Leads”, etc. I always pick “Conversion” and install a conversion pixel to my landing page. This makes tracking results even easier.

FYI: Conversions means how many people converted to customers by grabbing your free gift or purchasing your product. A landing page is where the potential customer goes when he/she clicks your ad link.

Facebook Marketing Don’ts

♡ DON’T “Promote Page” – it’s a waste of time and money

♡ DON’T “Boost” just any old post, strategize what you want to push in your business

♡ DON’T try to reach everyone, otherwise you’ll reach no one

♡ DON’T keep using the same ad if you’re not seeing results

♡ DON’T spend a ton of money on ads, unless they’re working

I hope this was helpful, if so, share it with a friend who could benefit.

Now, comment below telling me if you’re for or against Facebook ads and why!

Can you imagine? Thanks so much for this update. I have been boosting page, website, posts…spending lost of cash, but I stopped this year and they even offered me a coupon…which I haven’t used. So if my understanding is correct, you’re saying the kind of stuff to boost/promote using facebook ADs are; giveaways, a new product or service, events, etc. stuff that actually has a way of bring me cash returns or at least tangible viewership right?

I would boost a post where you’re selling something or giving something away for free. Blog posts have no ROI except your views go up but I kind of see that as a waste of money. Hope this helps Chidalu! xx
