All You Need to Know About Clubhouse

Hate it or love it technology doesn’t slow down for anyone… especially if you’re a business owner, influencer, or entrepreneur. And if you don’t adapt, you’ll get left behind, which is why it’s so important to understand all you need to know about the latest social media app: Clubhouse.

We’re going to take a deep dive into what Clubhouse is, what it does, how to use it, and if you actually need it. Of course, it’s relatively new so there is a lot of unknown so I encourage you to do your own research but based on mine, this is what I’ve found…

What it is

According to Google, Clubhouse is an invite only drop-in audio chat app for iPhone users. I’m sure at some point the app will open to more than iOS peeps but for now if you don’t have an iPhone you can’t be in the club, unfortunately.

How would I describe it? Like a live podcast. To me, Clubhouse is like a podcast meets IG live meets Anchor (an older podcasting app that didn’t quite take off).

What it does

From a marketing standpoint, Clubhouse allows you to build your brand and expand your reach. There are hundreds of “rooms” to choose from to add your input to and/or learn from leading experts.

You can acquire a pretty big following just by showing up and engaging in the conversation from time to time. You can acquire an even bigger following if you’re the one leading the conversation and starting a “room.” It’s a great way to collaborate with other peers in your niche.

How to use it

Basically you can listen and learn or engage and inform about any topic. Literally, anything you can think of you can tune in to. I’ve seen rooms about TikTok, Harry Potter, Instagram, finance, IG Reels, real estate, Pinterest… you name it.

The beauty about Clubhouse, unlike every other app except Twitter, is you don’t have to put in much effort to show up. You don’t have to do your hair, makeup, etc. You can just pop on and join the chat with little to no prep.

Now… depending on how you’re using the app, I recommend a lot of preparation but if you’re just observing and getting your feet wet, no prep is necessary.

You can create an “event” that’s a one time deal or recurring every week or however often that you want. Like everything else regarding social media, I recommend staying consistent. So if you’re going to host an event on Clubhouse, consistently host the same or a similar event every week to get (and give) the most value.

You’re not going to become a thought leader overnight from hosting one event. You have to consistently show up even when you don’t want or when you feel like it’s useless. I promise you it’s not. The magic is in the mundane of rinsing and repeating.

Do you need it?

Only you can answer that. I would say the first step is to join and then listen. Get familiar with Clubhouse and all it has to offer first before deciding how you want to use it or if you want to use it at all.

My rule of thumb for any new app is to just get it and then evaluate your current marketing strategy to see where you are and if it’s something that can be worked in/utilized.

In my opinion you’ll never regret trying something new that could possibly improve or grow your business. Obviously you don’t want to bite off more than you can chew but you don’t want to be late to the party either. There’s something to be said for those who are “first to market” (the first users of an app).

For example, if you joined TikTok in the early days circa 2015-2017 and stayed consistent with it, you’d probably have millions of followers right now. But if you join TikTok today, there are algorithms in place that make it much more difficult to have that same viral growth component. It’s almost as hard to grow on TikTok as it is on Instagram now.

Mind you I say hard, not impossible. Success is hard work, growing a business is hard work. So now the question is, is it worth to you? Is the possibility of joining Clubhouse and having your brand or business explode, worth the risk, time, and energy of trying?
