Why You Shouldn’t Fake It ’til You Make It

bethenny frankel quotesWell if you haven’t noticed by now, I am a self-improvement junkie and I recently had an AHA moment. This whole time I’ve been thinking, ‘Ok fake it ’til you make it, you got this’, all to find there’s an even better method that will help me reach my goals.

Here’s the best reason why you shouldn’t fake it ’til you make it: no one likes a faker. It’s hard for me to say that because that’s pretty much how I’ve been operating my blog/business. I post all these pretty little pictures on Instagram and inspirational quotes on Facebook when the truth is, my life is pretty messy and some days I am way less than inspired, especially on this journey to revolutionizing the fashion blogging world.

Amidst my self-improvement researching, I came across Social Triggers. I’ve been focussing on marketing tactics and how to grow my audience, which is what Social Triggers is all about. I actually watched Derek Halpern on Marie TV years ago. Anyway, Derek says people relate much better to people on the same journey as them versus someone who’s already an expert. It’s so true!

I much rather join in with someone who’s growing and experiencing the same things I am than watch someone who’s already at the top. For me, your experience > your expertise.

For example, Danielle Bernstein at We Wore What, I love the girl BUT she’s already made it and it’s hard to relate to her Fancy Nancy events and thousand dollar handbags. Someone like Lauryn Evarts from The Skinny Confidential has a humble background and shares her journey of hustle constantly. I love watching her grow.

So, my new commitment to you, my lovely loyal readers, is to stop faking it and OWN IT.

Owning It 101:

Currently: I work full time
Goal: To be self-employed/an entrepreneur/#GIRLBOSS

Currently: Living in NJ on a mattress on the floor
Goal: To live in NYC in an apartment I own

Currently: Have my boyfriend/mom/cousin take pictures of me for my blog
Goal: To have a professional photographer

Currently: Have less than 100 subscribers on my email list
Goal: To have 100,000 subscribers on my email list

So there ya have it. The truth is revealed. They say the truth will save you… let’s hope that’s the case for this blog post.

What have you been faking? Share in the comments below!

This is an amazing post, THANK YOU FOR BEING REAL! As a new blogger it’s easy to look at at gorgeous blogs like yours and assume that I can’t relate to where you are in your journey…it’s awesome that you’re owning and sharing where you are now as well as where you’re headed. I’m all the more excited to follow your journey and future successes. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Oh my gosh thank you for your sweet words Kasie, I completely agree! I love when bloggers write raw stuff like this because it helps us relate and realize everyone goes through the motions! Blogging is tough stuff but through authenticity, pretty pictures, and networking anyone can succeed! Your blog is on its way, keep up the great work and stay in touch!
